The Em Eung Family

Our Story

Sok Tha and her husband Em Eung have five adult children, and rent their land for $250 USD a year. Only one of their children lives with them and works to provide for the couple. Sok Tha is unable to work due to her health and Em Eung’s work is only seasonal – putting the family in a difficult situation! The couple have been forced to borrow money to pay for their land and hospital bills for Sok Tha’s HIV treatment.

They currently owe almost $3,000 USD to eight seperate lenders. They would love to live somewhere where the houses are separated, not close together like the slum they currently occupy on the edge of the river. They are worried about how the area will change as it develops, and that it will become an industrial area and they will be unable to move away.
