The Mao Family

Our Story

Mao Bun Thoeurn and his wife, Morn Yeang, live along the river east of SALT School. While they have no specific employment, they do what work they can as a handyman and washing clothes for others in Ta Skor. Demand for such jobs is seasonal which can make it very difficult for the family.

They used to live further out in the province, growing all their own food. The lifestyle changes they have had to make as they moved closer to Phnom Penh to find work have been hard on their two boys, who keep skipping school. “If we could only have a little space to grow our own food,” Mao Bun Thoeurn says through a translator, “we could achieve financial stability”. The couple has no debt!
