The Nai Family
Our Story
Nai Neourn lives with his wife, Cheourn Sophal, her mother Grandmother Cheourn and their four children in the shanty town west of SALT School. They are in a tremendous amount of debt, owing over $4,000 USD to eight different agencies. Nai Neourn works as a fisherman, his wife as a housemaid and their three eldest boys fish and work in construction while Grandmother Cheourn stays at home to look after the younger child. It’s therefore a joint family effort to pay off their debt, but still between them they only earn $10-15 USD a day.
Grandmother Cheourn would love to have her own space to start a small garden of her own with which she can help support her children and grandchildren! With such a big family, Nai Neourn and Cheourn Sophal would also love to have their own space big enough for a garden, and to send their children to the SALT School. They dream of being able to feed themselves with their gardens, so they can focus on paying off their debt together and achieving their goal of education for the children!
